Ben Kelley
I am an Ivy League graduate with over seven years of tutoring and academic coaching experience. I lead students to success by sparking their interest and making the subject engaging to learn, using a goal-driven approach.
My area of focus is in college admissions preparation, including short-term intensive or long-term prep for SAT/ACT/AP exams and broader college strategy coaching.
As a certified ESL teacher, I specialize in assisting multilingual students, but I am experienced with students of all backgrounds. I approach students at their level, using a firm but understanding approach to push them to achieve the very best that they can do because I have been in their position before.
I am passionate about helping students succeed and expand their skill sets, and it is a daily joy to share my knowledge, guide their improvement, and to see the fruits of their effort.
About Ben’s SAT/ACT Program
The length of my program is approximately 30 hours for the best results, though this can vary. Students already scoring very highly may only require 15-20 hours. Students scoring on the lower end or students that have not yet completed Algebra 2 may require 40+ hours for the best results. Students only requesting assistance with one section of the exam will require less time.
Students should be prepared to spend 1-1.5 hours between each meeting on assigned homework in order to maximize the benefit of the time we spend in our sessions.
The pace of the program can be modified based on the student's testing timeline. One or two meetings per week is typical for most students, but a higher frequency will likely be necessary if there is not much time remaining before a test date when the program begins.
In my first few meetings with a student, I cover the structure of the test, general strategies for each type of question, and student weak points. Further sessions focus on these weak points through targeted lessons, guided practice, and question pattern recognition strategies.
One of the biggest things I focus on with all students is that no one question is completely unique; they all fit into some structure that is modified for each exam. Recognizing the patterns in the specific types of questions a student struggles with and devising strategies to understand and conquer those questions is the best way to see score increases.
